The European Commission has recently launched a new initiative to “Increase Digitalisation Awareness & Readiness of EU Communities”. The aim of this initiative is to support EU communities at the early stages or that have not yet begun their digital transformation journey by providing resources, best practices, and training to develop digital strategies.
On 22 May 2025 at 11.00-16.00 CEST, the ECON Commission of the European Committee of the Regions will organise the first Digital Participatory Forum in synergy with a DG Connect info day on a new funding programme for GenAI projects in public administration.
Following calls to increase the EU’s competitiveness in the development and uptake of Artificial Intelligence, the recently published AI Continent Action Plan aims to make the EU a “leading AI continent”. In this context, the European Commission has launched a public consultation to inform the drafting of the future “Apply AI Strategy”, an initiative aiming to strengthen the adoption and deployment of AI in key industries and the public sector in the EU.

What is the Geospatial World Forum (GWF)?
The European Commission has launched the Destination Earth (DestinE) initiative to build a virtual replica of the Earth, with the goal of enabling digital twins of the Earth system by 2030. As of today, DestinE consists of two digital twins: one on climate change adaptation, and one on extreme weather events, with more replicas on other thematic domains such as oceans and biodiversity to follow.
