Webinar: Have your say on the next European Interoperability Framework
About
Interoperability is a key part of digital transformation, allowing cities and regions to seamlessly exchange data between different services, sectors and organisations. The European Interoperability Framework (EIF) provides a foundation to enable cross-border interoperability at the European level through common standards and specifications. This allows public authorities to make life easier for citizens and save time and costs by creating, sharing and reusing open solutions.
Since the release of current edition of the EIF (3.0, published in 2017), public administrations in the EU are facing new realities: The emergence of digital tools such as Data Spaces and AI are reshaping public services at the local and regional level; the EU digital policy landscape has also evolved with new frameworks such as the AI Act or the Digital Wallet; and there are growing calls to make the EIF more actionable and accessible to city experts and citizens. Therefore, as mandated by the Interoperable Europe Act, the EIF will be revised to better meet these needs.
Objective
The new version of the European Interoperability Framework, the “Next Generation EIF”, is being developed by DG DIGIT and external experts and will be submitted to the Interoperable Europe Board for adoption in 2026. In parallel, the European Commission aims to consult stakeholders on their input regarding the EIF review with an open call on the Have Your Say portal.
This session aims to collect feedback from local and regional authorities to incorporate feedback from cities and regions into the new Framework. Representatives from DG DIGIT will present the draft new Framework and its impact on local and regional administrations, followed by an interactive discussion aimed at gathering feedback from participants on cities' and regions' needs for interoperable digital public services.
