The OECD is looking for input into their Urban Digital Twins workstream

OECD Urban Digital Twin
News| Published: 12 Jun 2026

The OECD is inviting cities and regions to participate in a new OECD workstream on Urban Digital Twins, launched in partnership with Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Around the world, cities are increasingly turning to Urban Digital Twins to support more resilient, sustainable, and data-driven urban development. For example, Seoul is using digital twin technologies to strengthen urban security and risk management, while European initiatives such as CiTiVERSE EDIC are developing interoperable digital twin ecosystems at scale.

The workstream will map the current state of urban digital twins initiatives in OECD countries and provide governments with practical evidence, international benchmarks, and policy guidance to support the effective development and deployment of Urban Digital Twins.

Why participate?

By contributing to this OECD initiative, your city will have the opportunity to:

  • identify emerging practices and policy trends in urban digital twins
  • benchmark your approaches and challenges against those of leading cities internationally
  • get your best practices featured in an OECD report providing an international assessment of Urban Digital Twin policies and practices
  • continue exchanges with peers and experts through OECD workshops and roundtables

First step: OECD city survey

As a first step, cities are invited to complete a short survey on your city’s experience, priorities, and future plans regarding Urban Digital Twins and related initiatives.

Upcoming opportunities to engage

We also hope you will join upcoming OECD activities related to this workstream, including:

  • July and September 2026: expert seminars (hybrid, dates to be confirmed)
  • 2 December 2026 : OECD Smart City Roundtable

The current deadline to complete the survey is 19 June.
