Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic (MIRDI SR)

The Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic (MIRDI SR) is a central public authority body. MIRDI SR is a budgetary institution of the government, the revenues and expenditures of which are bound to the state budget. The main tasks include participation in creation and implementation of the uniform state policy in the field of the use of European Union funds, as well as informatization of the society, and investment. As part of its powers, MIRDI SR performs tasks concerning management, coordination and supervision of the use of European Union funds in the area of informatization of the society, as well as in the field of investments.
MIRDI, specifically through the Department of Smart Agenda Development, has accelerating experience in the field of smart communities and digitalization. They coordinate the National Smart Cities and Regions Agenda, and have developed a comprehensive Action Plan for 2023-2026, which outlines 12 key measures. These measures aim to enhance the ability of public administration to provide comprehensive support in building smart cities and regions, while also increasing the capacity of local governments to implement smart city concepts. Key initiatives include supporting testbeds for innovative solutions, developing long-term education programs in smart governance, fostering innovative procurement practices, and facilitating the development of smart ecosystems. They focus on promoting collaboration with international organizations, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in smart technology development, and building data management systems for informed decision-making. Additionally, their projects focus on the application of IoT technologies, digital twins, and data-driven governance to improve municipal services such as energy efficiency, urban mobility, and infrastructure management. By creating a robust methodological framework, they ensure that municipalities can prepare and implement high-quality projects, leveraging digital platforms and tools.
