How can cities leverage large language models (LLMs) to serve their communities and address societal challenges? Join us for an engaging session exploring Amsterdam’s approaches to integrating LLMs into municipal use cases.

Date and Time: February 5, 2025 | 10:00 – 11:00 AM (CET)
Location: Online via Microsoft Teams
Registration: https://forms.office.com/e/Hiz6pEuhhQ

This event is designed for technology providers and technical departments looking to pilot technological solutions with a strong social focus.

The AI Lab of the City of Amsterdam experiments with AI technology in order to understand the risks and opportunities that emerging AI technology brings to the city and to inspire colleagues to adopt AI in a responsible way. In the past year, the focus has been on researching large language models, their use within the municipality and their impact on society.

Through a series of projects, we have gained insights into different models which could be used for Dutch municipal use cases as well as considerations and mitigation strategies related to underlying issues such as bias and factuality. Furthermore, we have looked into the implications of using technologies such as standard or agentic retrieval augmented generation in use cases directly facing citizens.

In this session, Iva Gornishka (a data scientist at the AI Lab) will walk you through the frameworks that the City of Amsterdam uses to ensure that AI development aligns with our values and will share the most applicable findings of these projects.

The session will provide attendees with an overview of these efforts, including key learnings and best practices.

Agenda:

  • 10:00 – 10:10: Introduction and overview

  • 10:10 – 10:40: Presentation by Iva Gornishka, data scientist at the AI Lab, covering:

  • Frameworks to align AI development with municipal values

  • Insights into Dutch municipal use cases for LLMs

  • Mitigation strategies for issues like bias and factuality

  • Applications of retrieval-augmented generation technologies for citizen-facing services

  • 10:40 – 11:00: Q&A and wrap-up

Why Attend?
Gain insights into Amsterdam’s innovative work with AI, learn practical lessons for responsible LLM use, and explore how these technologies can support more inclusive and ethical public services.
