SCN greece
Country:Greece
Organisation Type:Non-profit Organisation

SUSTAINABLE CITY Network (SCN) was established in 2017 as a civil, non-profit organisation to provide substantial technical support to the municipalities participating in it in terms of information, networking and management, enabling them to prepare and submit proposals to European Programmes and utilise the available funding. With a total of 85 members to date, SCN is composed mainly of small and medium-sized municipalities, but also includes institutions, foundations and research organisations as members, and continues to expand. The leading aspirations of the Network is to plan and act in order to develop a network of cooperation among its members in the areas of sustainable development, sustainability, environmental protection, circular economy, climate change, energy efficiency, energy transition, and capacity building. The main objective is to promote cooperation between its members and other entities (non-members), in order to improve the physical, cultural, social environment and the level of people's welfare living in the wider boundaries of the participating municipalities. SCN also supports its members by conducting technical studies and contributing to the design and implementation phases of the relevant projects. The network manages a diverse team of specialised engineers, scientists and academic researchers to meet the specific requirements and conditions of each project. The Network seeks to achieve its objectives through scientific and technical research and technical assistance in the design and proposal phases, and subsequently in operation, ultimately aiming to develop and implement innovative programmes and policies in the following areas: sustainable development, strategic and operational outlines, protection of the environment, circular and social economy and eco-innovation, waste management, sustainability, cultural promotion and growth, tourism development, agricultural development, facilitating participation in employment, reconstructing and fostering social cohesion, energy conservation and capacity building.

In the field of smart communities and digitalisation, SCN participates in several projects in the field of ICT and application of digital solutions towards a greener and more sustainable future. In particular, SCN has participated in the DECIDO Project (H2020) which aimed to support and increase capacity building of public administrations regarding the utilisation and exploitation of open data in disaster risk management and the implementation of appropriate customised evidence-based policies. SCN is also participating in RISKADAPT (HORIZON EUROPE) which will provide a novel, integrated, modular, interoperable, public and free, customisable user-friendly platform (PRISKADAPT), to support systemic, risk-informed decisions regarding adaptation to climate change induced compound events at the asset level, focusing on the structural system. SCN also participates in the ENERGATE Project (LIFE) which aims to create an efficient energy efficiency market, using ICT, which will bring together energy services and sustainable financing, increasing the chances for funding and accelerating the rate of building renovation. SCN has also implemented the project “Energy Monitoring and Calculation of the Carbon footprint of Municipal Buildings and Facilities” funded by GREEN FUND, aimed to achieve the development and installation in 4 municipalities of a digital GIS platform, which is used to record the energy consumption of municipal buildings and facilities and calculate their carbon footprint, in order to provide an innovative tool for monitoring the municipal infrastructure.
