Lithuanian Green Municipalities Network

Lithuanian Green Municipalities Network was established in 2023 which joined 24 municipalities. They are part of the EDIH4IAE European digital innovation hub. In February 2023 the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities invited the country’s municipalities to join the Green Initiative, which was initiated by the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) parliamentary group “Green Municipalities – 2030”. At the end of 2022, at the conference held in the Lithuanian Parliament, the Memorandum of initiative of the Green Municipalities was adopted. On 8 May 2023, 24 municipalities, whose Mayors and those responsible for climate neutrality already joined the Lithuanian Green Municipalities National Network, participated in the conference: Green Transformation: The Path of Lithuanian Municipalities to Climate Neutrality” held in the Lithuanian Parliament. On this day, the Lithuanian Green Municipalities National Network was officially launched, with the Lithuanian Energy Institute as coordinator.
Goals of the network: To bring together Lithuanian municipalities, industry, business, science, non-governmental organisations and civil communities in order to develop innovative technologies and solutions for Smart Cities. It is planned to implement the pilot project Green Township and establish a green city innovation centre, the main activities of which will be: to test and demonstrate new technologies and innovative solutions for Smart Cities and to familiarise decision-makers, businesses and the public with these innovative solutions; train professionals for the future of Smart Cities.
