The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a mission-driven Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) that develops competitive and market-oriented product/service prototypes for public and private stakeholders. With its 750 employees, 75% of whom are researchers or innovation experts from all around the world, LIST is active in the fields of informatics, environment, materials and spaces, working across the entire innovation chain: fundamental/applied research, incubation and transfer of technologies. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, AI, smart data and tools, LIST is about empowerment: We empower European citizens in their choices, We empower public authorities in their decisions, We empower businesses in their strategies. LIST is organised in multiple research units and research platforms in its active fields, which represent the backbone of their activity as an RTO.

LIST is heavily involved in the development of smart cities and communities both locally in Luxembourg but also at the EU level, in particular through its implication in CitCom.ai as management entity for the project operations (i.e., AI experiments in cities and communities) and its role as representative of Luxembourg as Member State in the LDT towards the CitiVERSE EDIC. LIST researchers contribute to different aspects in the smart communities ecosystems, starting from data management and software advances in the field of Local Digital Twin platforms but also producing relevant models in different sectoral topics inherent to the domain of smart cities, including mobility, environmental monitoring, urban planning, logistics, among others. Additionally, LIST has very strong competences in the methodological aspects related to collaborative and participatory decision making and the design and implementation of impactful demonstration platforms, using advance large scale visualisation and immersive environments.
